As the capital city of Norway, Oslo is a natural destination for visits from foreign study groups. The governmental bodies are to be found here and a large number of central and local authorities, public and private institutions and organisations, cultural- and tourist attractions and diverse business community are located in Oslo.
In order to process and co-ordinate the work related to such study visit requests, the City of Oslo has created its own central Study Visits Unit, located at the City Hall. This unit is the co-ordinating body between the tour operator and the enterprises. It addresses all the queries relating to the requested topics, such as who will be coming, the size of the group, language, time etc.
The programme for a visit for an individual study group may vary from some hours to 1-2 days, and the content of a visit may encompass multiple topics. A visit often starts with a lecture at the City Hall ,followed by a visit to one or more agencies and district administrations.
Most often, a visit to an individual agency will take a couple of hours. The central activity engendered by every study visit would be adapt and secure the programme for the visit in relation to the thematic desires of the group and level of the authorities.
The Study Visit Unit has a broad network of contacts and is able to provide contacts to other relevant non municipal agencies.
